Grow In Grace

I love the word g r a c e. When you think of what the word really means and how it applies to our Spiritual walk, it’s something you want to be. It represents freedom not only from sin, but our own imperfections. Because of grace, we don’t have to be perfect for God to accept us. We don’t have to impress Him. He knows we’re human.

It’s not just about accepting grace but learning how to give it as well. We have to give it to ourselves. When we feel like failures we can safely run to Him and He will always accept our broken pieces because of grace. That’s how we need to treat others.

Has somebody hurt you or made you angry? Pray for grace. Set your roots in the abundant grace that God gives. There’s plenty for everyone. It’s a place we can always g r o w.

The Word of God is Like A Lion

The lion back in Bible times was one of the most dangerous animals there were and it still is today. Lions are bold, courageous, fearless, strong. They know who they are, where they stand and what they are capable of.

When the Bible was written, it wasn’t written from the human spirit but from the breath of God. Just as He spoke a word and created life in the beginning, the same is true in that the Bible was breathed out. It’s His artwork- all man did was put it into writing. Therefore, we can consider it almost as a piece of God. And does God need defending? No. He can stand on His own.

The problem has always been that we cannot even remember let alone understand everything that is in the scriptures. We never will. We can study and read and pray but we have to have the Holy Spirit open our eyes to be able to understand what He wills us to understand. It’s a gift that He gives to us!

For thus the Lord said to me,
“As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey, and when a band of shepherds is called out against him he is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise. so the Lord of hosts will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its hill." -Isaiah 31:4

In this passage of Isaiah 31 the shepherds holler and scream and shake their staffs all they want to but the lion is still not moved or even remotely amused. God will protect what is His. He will fight for His glory. And when He returns to wreak havoc on this wretched world- He’s going to be like a lion pouncing on His prey. He won’t need any help.

This page may look like it took a long time to do but it really didn't- the colored pencil shading took the longest because I only had cheap colored pencils. I colored the lion beforehand and pasted in the Bible with painted background to match.

The gold acrylic paint really made the lion pop!

Precious Wisdom

“But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?" -Job 28:12-28 (ESV)

13 Man does not know its worth, and it is not found in the land of the living.
14 The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
15 It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price.
16 It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire.
17 Gold and glass cannot equal it, nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; the price of wisdom is above pearls.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.
20 “From where, then, does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?

Wisdom is not: knowing brilliant math equations or scientific facts; the vast unexplored areas of space or the deep sea; the psychological or emotional structure of humans or animals; it is not anything that can be summed up on earth. Wisdom is knowing who God is, knowing that God is all powerful, all knowing, all present and above all- Holy. He is perfect. Wisdom is giving God the reverence and glory and honor that He deserves. That is what a “healthy” fear is. It’s respect.

It cannot be found. It cannot be bottled. It cannot be written down. It is learned. It is shared. 👌🏻

Selah

Selah: a word intended to note as a pause to reflect. It’s a verb- something that requires action from the reader. It’s quite interesting to note where the author uses this word throughout the Psalms (also found in Habakkuk). Also to note, the Psalms were not only meant to be read, but sung and Selah indicates a place of pause of rest. Reading aside, how much do we need to practice the art of Selah? Pausing, resting, meditating. It’s a "life" verb we need to use more often.

Disclaimer- the NIV version does not use Selah within the actual text but in the footnotes.

Also a quick tip, if you want something to stick out of your Bible, like the top of my fern here, but don’t want it messed up, cover the edges with packing tape! No more worries!

Loyalty

Read 1 Samuel 24

I chose the passage of 1 Samuel 24 where Saul and his 3,000 men were trying to kill David. When Saul went to relieve himself and David was hiding in the cave with his own men, he totally could have took out this threat on his life. The PERFECT opportunity! But he didn’t. 1) He was being loyal to God because God told him not to. 2) He was loyal to King Saul even though he wanted him dead. He had to flea the country because of him! God wanted David to trust him- He had hidden him the whole time and protected Him. He would not deliver him up. Saul also needed to humbled to realized just how close he was to His own death that God did not allow just yet. Loyalty and trust.

This entry flourished from watching the Legend of Tarzan movie 4 or 5 or 6 times. 🙈 there are some movies out there that do something to me where I have to binge watch it (and the sound track) over and over until I get tired of it. Any movies do that to you? I was watching it for about the third time and God graced me with a vision of this layout. 2 foggy mountains, a tree and a gorilla in the Savannah grasslands. I thought that there was no way I could pull that off, but you know what? The next morning I completed it and it wasn’t that hard. When the Lord wants you to do something, He will enable you to do it. I’ll do a process vid of this when I get my equipment set up.

The loyalty in this movie is really strong. The gorilla will always be a reminder of this for me! And maybe you too! (Go watch the movie!!! 😝)

Bonus: my mom is from Africa and she absolutely loves it! She’s a pretty tough critic when comes to her homeland but she recognized this as amount Kili.
