Mod Podge Sealer, Glue and FinishModpodge is the most used thing in my studio. I love to collage and love everything to be sealed and protected. And believe it or not- I didn't discover it until after college. Figures. There's currently 17+ types of Modpodge for every type of project out there. I personally use the matte version for the majority of my projects. I do like the look of the gloss but it dry a little tacky when I use it in my art journal. (Put some cornstarch or baby powder over it if you have that problem too)
Thinking of making your own with PVA glue and water? I would not recommend it- it's not the same thing. I love to make my own supplies as much as possible, and considering I practically drink the stuff with my artwork, homemade Modpodge just doesn't hold up and can yellow over time. Ew. Besides, one bottle goes a long way... |
Scotch Permanent Glue SticksPermanent, Acid-free, Non-toxic, Cleans with soap and water
Scotch Permanent Glue Sticks are my favorite glue sticks. I don't use Modpodge for everything- especially little day-to-day things. If you want something to really stick and not go anywhere, then don't use the *washable glue sticks* I used them enough as an elementary teacher to know that even the best glue sticks used by kids who love to smother on glue still will not stick for very long. These are washable but they dry permanent on paper- which means your embellishments won't be falling off later. These will adhere to vellum and even window clings. If you're a stick and plonk person like me, buy these in bulk! |
Scotch Heavy Duty Packaging TapeI use two kinds of packing tape in my studio:
Scotch Heavy Duty Packaging Tape for things that are going to be handled frequently that I need extra protection on- mostly for book tabbing art and Bible journal pages. I also cover the outside of my journals with this tape. I would laminate everything if I could! Scotch Clear Book Tape or Non-Heavy duty Standard Packing Tape- the cheaper packing tape that is not as thick (less than 2.8mil) and is perfect for covering and protecting journal covers and art journal pages (especially the ones with little pieces you don't want falling out later). You want as little bulk as possible inside your journals so you don't break the binding. |
