DIY: Expanding Your Bible

Is your illustrating Bible a little too chunky? I knew mine definitely would be if I added enough medium to the pages so I decided to rebind my Bible and split it into two halves. The whole process takes about an hour and is very simple to do with only a few tools.

Need some coils? Check out my Etsy shop and I'll send them right to you!
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1012219035/2-50mm-black-spiral-binding-coil-for

Once bound, I decorated the cover for the second half of my Bible and covered it in masking tape on both sides. You can laminate the material before hand if you have a laminator big enough!

Cover measurements: 9.75" x 9.5"
Measuring tape edge (for hole line up on cover) 1/8" from edge

MATERIALS:
  • Illustrating Bible CSB Green (Spiral Bound Journaling Bible)
  • Coil Cutting and Crimping Pliers for Crimping Plastic Coil Crimper Tool or pliers
  • 50mm Black 4:1 Pitch Spiral Binding Coil - 50pk
  • Beacon Multi-Purpose Adhesive Spray
  • Scotch Clear Book Tape
  • Fiskars Circle Hand Punch, 1/4 Inch, Purple
  • Cover: 4 Thick Scrapbook sheets (or recycled packaging, poster board, plastic cutting mat, heavy fabric- whatever you have)

DIY: Punched Ephemera

I use stars in almost every project and where do they come from? The tiniest of all the recycled scraps- even found a hole punch that makes super itty bitty ones!

I keep them in this jewelry organizer organized by the 5 shape punches and color- black, white, gold, silver, copper and other.

Oh, and sometimes I find star confetti packs while thrifting and I put those in here too ⭐️ It’s my favorite recycling hack 😃
  • 3 PCS (1.5",1",5/8") Star Shape Craft Punch
  • 1/4 Inch Star Shaped Metal Single Handheld Hole Paper Punch

TIP: Stamping with Leftover Sticker Scraps

This is definitely my favorite tip that I use ALL THE TIME.

I'm a huge fan of those cheap but adorable wall sticker designs from Dollar Tree. I'm always on the lookout for the newest one because you can do several different layouts with one sheet.

I'm also a huge fan of using all the leftover sticker background to make my own stickers. If you've seen my quote journal pages, this is what I use for the words. I stamp out different words on the scraps for my own word stickers.

I also do this with the leftover clear sticker paper for when I print my printables. Clear sticker paper is more versatile because you can use the tiniest weird shaped pieces and you won't see the edges as much as you would white.

Sticker paper isn't cheap and there's no need to waste it when you can make your own stickers from the stamps you already own! Or make your own doodles.

**When stamping on any type of gloss sticker paper, make sure you use a solvent based ink like Tsukineko StazOn Multi-Surface Inkpad, Jet Black! Dye ink and pigment ink will smear and color shift over time.

TIP: Holepunching Sticker Sheets

If you have stickers sheets that have a colored background (white is ok too!), save those bits for punching!

If a shaped punch or die cut will fit in the spaces- GREAT! Use that! If not, use a regular hole puncher to use those bits up!

For this holographic sheet here, I used a hole puncher to punch out tiny circles that work great as bubbles for my under the sea pieces.

I recommend investing in one or two mini shape punches that you would use a to get the most out of your scraps. I personally have a star, a hear and a circle. You can punch them all once, store them in a bead organizer and have all sorts embellies ready when you need them.

AND you didn't waste a thing!

TIP: Healing Mat for Die Cutting

If you do ANY amount of die cutting then you know how aggravating those plastic plates can be.

Well, I figured out how to NOT use at least one of them. Replace the bottom plate that you would normally cut on with a self healing cutting mat. A 5 X7 Inch Self Healing Cutting Mat should fit most cutting machines but you can buy a bigger one to cut down if you want/need a particular size. Check the fabric or drafting section of your craft store.

AND it works well even through a magnetic plate- another grand investment!

This has seriously cut down on a lot of frustration when I'm die cutting.

Also, use all your scraps (: These are some parking stubs I've been using from all the hospital visits this summer I'm using with Kaisercraft Uppercase Alphabet Die Set
