DIY: Punched Ephemera

I use stars in almost every project and where do they come from? The tiniest of all the recycled scraps- even found a hole punch that makes super itty bitty ones!

I keep them in this jewelry organizer organized by the 5 shape punches and color- black, white, gold, silver, copper and other.

Oh, and sometimes I find star confetti packs while thrifting and I put those in here too ⭐️ It’s my favorite recycling hack 😃

TIP: Clear Pouch Die Cut Set Storage

Heat Tool: Photo Sleeve Fuse Starter Kit by We R Memory Keepers
I've only recently got into die cutting this past year and I've just now found a storage solution i like for storing die cut sets.

I took the clear zipper pouch (ziplock bag would work too) that my Brea Reese brushes came in and measured it into three parts. I then used my Project Life Heat Tool to seal the lines to make three separate pouches.

In this one, I have one for my waves set, one for numbers, and then one for leaves.

If you don't have heat tool, you can always use sew it together. But if you're like me and can't sew, you can also use a stapler- just be sure to put packing tape on top on both sides to avoid cutting your fingers. I ended up doing this method in the end because I tend to be rough with things and I have a feeling the heat method wouldn't hold.

Now I have a thin, see through, and easily accessible way of storing all my friends together.

TIP: Buying Paint in Bulk- Cheaply

I tend to go through a lot of paint. A LOT OF PAINT.

When I was going through a paint pouring stage (kudos if you're making that work!) I was stocking up on lots of paint. I hit up my local Habitat for Humanity store and few local hardware store for unwanted paint. They tend to sell excess paint, mistinted paint, and just weird colored paint for cheap. You can buy a whole gallon for about $5 compared to the craft size at about a $1 a piece.

I only buy LATEX paint. Some times they have oil paint, wood paint and things that look like paint but aren't paint for sale. Be sure to check the labels!

And I only buy colors in bulk that I use a lot (white, black, blue, gray...) Most of the time you won't find bright rainbow colors for sale in places like that (sometimes you DO though!!!) so it's good to stick to the basics. Even if you only buy white in bulk, you can always use it as a gesso prep for pages and canvas which is much cheaper than a new bottle of craft store gesso.

I did find a 5 gallon of gesso for $5 one time though that I will be using for the rest of my life... so there's that. You never know what you will run across.
How do you store your newfound bulk paint purchase? Well you're obviously not going to want to open a tin gallon bucket and break out the paint stirrers every time you want to use it- unless that's what floats your boat. It's cool if you do.

But if you don't, then you would need to pour it into something smaller for easier use. Make sure you stir the paint very well when you get it! I personally use the clear restaurant style condiment bottles that I store in a shoe storage hanger on the back of my door. They work well for mixing and they're easy to pour into and out of.

You can use anything you want- face cream jars, baby food jars, empty paint bottles, empty gelato jars... I've used all of them and they work great! I poured my white paint into a gelato jar and now I want ice cream every time I paint with it. So I wouldn't advise that. Ok, yes I would (:

Standard Clear CD Jewel Case
If you haven't found an easy way to store and manage your unmounted stamps, then you might like this one.

I have a little shelf on my table that I store my stamps in Standard Clear CD Jewel Case- the old thick ones, not the thin ones.

While most stamp sets are photo size, there are some that aren't. This is really great for some of those stamps that cling to the backing like they should or those really little odd shaped ones.

You can stamp the designs on a scrap piece of paper to use as the CD cover for easy searching.

Alternatively, if you have a bunch of wood mounted stamps that you wouldn't mind being unmounted, peel them from the wood backing and store them in a case. It will save you quite a bit of space!

You can easily find a CD holder at a thrift store these days to display your stamps that won't take up near as much space as would photo boxes and stamp binders.
