The world feeds us dirt, grass, rock, gravel. Mud. If you didn't know there was more to life than playing in a mud pit then you would probably never leave it. But once you realized there were wonderful delights in the world like cheeseburgers, French fries, ice cream, doughnuts and sweet tea- you should never want to go back to the mud pit. The Word of God is that delicious buffet of wonderful things to savor and enjoy that is much better for us than dirt. Who doesn't delight in eating a piece of cake or the lick of an ice cream cone on a hot day?
Not everything in the Word can be compared to desserts. No- we can't live off of sugary doughnuts for the rest of our lives (not for a lack of trying though).
Theres also a lot of veggies and protein that we need to be the bulk of our diet- the things we don't prefer to hear about like things we shouldn't do, things we should do but don't want to, and things we need to change about ourselves. These necessities cleanse us from the inside out making us whole and healthy to be able to carry out the design that God has for us. We also need a lot of protein- things we have to chew on, pray about, and work out in our lives. These aren't easy to swallow but they help our muscles the most to keep us from getting weak.
Intentional Life of Lemons
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified." -Romans 8:26-30 (ESV)
If somebody handed you a lemon when you were a child you wouldn’t have known what to do with it. You wouldn’t have ate it once you tried it because it’s so sour and you would have probably been mad that somebody gave you a lemon in the first place. Unless you’re one of the weird kids who eat sour stuff 😂💛
God gives us lemons. No one is a fan of having curveballs and plot twists thrown their way but that’s life. It’s how you handle it that counts. You can do a lot with lemons! You can cook with them, you can clean with them, you can grow plants from them, and they’re great for you body in helping to fight germs! They’re very useful tools IF you CHOOSE to use them as such.
The lemons He gives us are for our benefit- never for our demise. We may not know what to do with them at all the time but He can help us! And before you know it you’ll be drinking refreshing lemonade from those sour lemons.
It’s not all bad 🙌🏻.
Shake It Off and Move On
“And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.”
We are all in need of spiritual detox- everyday. Think about all the junk that gets thrown at you- drama, lies, insecurity, evil thoughts and displaced emotions... it’s poison for our souls when what we crave and what God designed for us is the Water of Life! It’s keeps us clean, light and ready for what God requires us to do.
