Righteous Rain

“Sow for yourselves according to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God); reap according to mercy and loving-kindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor, till He comes and teaches you righteousness and rains His righteous gift of salvation upon you.” -Hosea​ 10:12 (AMP)

​If you want rain to soak in -really soak in- the ground, then it has to be tilled. If you’ve operated a tiller, or a plow or even a shovel then you know it is hard work. Really hard work if you have certain types of soil. And you can’t just do it in one little place- you have to do it to cover the entire area and then some for something to grow.

We have to do the same things with our hearts. Just imagine a tiller digging up hard dirt to make it soft. (YouTube this if you need to- the illustration really hits home). How much work needs to be done to break up my own heart to where it’s acceptable for nourishment?

The Lord promises that once our fallow ground has been broken up that He will send down the rain! His righteous rain with the right nutrients and moisture that will seep through the newly soft ground.

What do we reap from this? Steadfast love. Love that goes on and on and on and on and is never in short supply.
